Birth Control
Alternate Avenues is against any birth control method that causes the destruction of a fertilized human egg (occyte or blastocyst). Additionally, Alternate Avenues does not make personal recommendations regarding birth control methods. Decisions regarding birth control methods are best left to the patient, their doctor, and pastor or priest. This is best so that a patient can prayerfully consider all information regarding their “method”, side effects and effectiveness. The position of Alternate Avenues is that abstinence (for unmarried couples) is always the best protection against unwanted pregnancies and STDs.
In Vitro Fertilzation
Alternate Avenues, while understanding the joy that a child brings into the life of a married couple, is against any procedure in which a fertilized human egg (occyte or blastocyst) is destroyed, whether intentionally or as a consequence of the procedure.
HPV Vaccine
While some strains of HPV are known to be major contributors to the rise of cervical cancer, the choice to vaccinate as a method of preventing a possible infection is best decided by a patient and her doctor. Any ethical concern, such as whether vaccinating sends a “wrong message,” is best discussed with a patient’s pastor or priest. Purity and fidelity are always the best protection against STDs.
